STONE SETTING WITHOUT PRONGS:
BEAD SETTING, FLUSH SETTING & TAPERED BEZEL SETTING
About this course
This 4 day workshop will first examine the various aspects and fundamental physical qualities of faceted gemstones and how to set them without the use of prongs. We begin with bead setting, then on to pave and finish up the small faceted stones with flush setting. From there we learn to make structural tapered bezels as well as a tube in a tube setting.
I have everyone arrive to class with 2-2mm thick sterling silver band that is approximately 5mm wide. Each student will be working with 2mm cz’s for the bead, pave and flush setting and a 5mm cz for the bezel or tapered tube setting. Besides basic handtools needed for the class we will need setting burrs (1.8mm) and 4.5mm setting burrs for the tube settings.
I always suggest that students bring any personal projects that they would like to incorporate faceted stones as well as any faceted gems that they would like to set.
